NIGERIAN ARMY TRAINS 8 DIVISION SENIOR NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS ON LEADERSHIP, PROFESSIONALISM The Nigerian Army has organised a five-day Leadership Awareness and Development Course for senior non-commissioned officers of the 8 Division and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to strengthen their leadership capacity, operational efficiency and professionalism. A statement by the the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba indicates that the course aligns with the Chief of Army Staff's Command philosophy of building a professionalism It adds that the training is to improve discipline, enhance inter-agency cooperation and equip participants with the skills needed to respond effectively to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges. Representing the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, and Commander, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Koughna, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 8 Division, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, commended the participants and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre for facilitating the programme. Major General Koughna described the programme as a strategic intervention designed to equip senior non-commissioned officers with the knowledge and skills required to improve their performance and service delivery. It further discloses that the training would deepen their understanding of leadership responsibilities and address existing gaps, particularly in joint and inter-agency operations. The GOC urged participants to pay close attention to the training and apply the knowledge gained to strengthen leadership, discipline and professionalism within the ranks. He also warned against the misuse of social media, stressing the need for effective coordination, cooperation and collaboration during joint operations. The Director-General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, retired Major General James Gwaza Khalifa Myam, represented by retired Major General Ifiok Obot, said the course was designed to address the demands of combat leadership, which places significant responsibilities on senior non-commissioned officers and requires discipline, competence and commitment
