Nigeria Launches Precise Postcode System Nationwide on Independence Day On October 1, 2026, Nigeria rolled out its National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System through NIPOST, assigning 11-character GIS-enabled codes to every addressable building after a pilot in Abuja. Minister Bosun Tijani called it a foundation for commerce, emergency services, and opportunities, while Postmaster-General Tola Odeyemi highlighted how vague landmarks caused ₦50-80 billion in annual delivery losses. Users can find their code at postcode.gov.ng or via the NIPOST app, with APIs available for developers to integrate. Public response praises its potential to boost e-commerce and response times.
