FG BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF NEW NATIONAL GRID CONTROL CENTRE The Federal Government has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, in Osogbo, Osun State. The new centre will replace a 64-year-old facility so as to effectively manage the national grid. A statement by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe says the new centre will give NISO real-time visibility of the national grid and the capacity to respond promptly to system events, describing it as a concrete expression of the President’s determination to fix underlying weaknesses in electricity supply. Upon completion the centre will deploy integrated SCADA, large-format displays and analytics to assist operators detect developing faults, plan preventive maintenance and optimise existing generation and transmission capacity.
