INDEPENDENCE DAY: UBA SANI GRANTS CLEMENCY to 27 INMATES, BENEFICIARIES EXCEED 500 kaduna state governor uba sani has granted clemency to 27 inmates in correctional facilities across the state as part of activities marking nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary. A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Mayaki indicates that the latest exercise brings the total number of beneficiaries of the governor’s clemency interventions to more than 500. the initiative includes the release of eligible inmates, as well as the payment of fines and compensation for victims. It further adds that the state government has spent more than 300 million naira on fines and compensation since governor sani assumed office in may 2023. The statement discloses that the clemency exercise is part of the governor’s practice of granting mercy on significant national occasions, including new year, democracy day and independence day. It notes that the initiative seeks to balance accountability and public safety with rehabilitation, reconciliation and the opportunity for deserving inmates to start afresh.
