GOVERNOR BAGO COMMISERATES WITH MINE WORKERS IN NIGER STATE; SAYS STATE COMMITTEE IS DIRECTED TO TAKE HEAD COUNTS Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has met with Miners and the Mine Workers in the State to commiserate with them over the death of thirty seven Artisanal Miners who died in the facility of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the State. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim indicates that during the Closed Door Meeting, the Governor prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss. Governor Umaru Bago briefed the leadership and the members of Miners Association of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter and the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers, Niger State Chapter on the strategies evolved by the State Government towards ensuring responsible mining practices across the State. The Governor explained that responsible mining entails ethical practices, environmental stewardship, community engagement and a balance in productivity and social responsibility. Governor Umaru Bago also emphasized that the safety of miners, mine workers and the communities surrounding the mining sites is of utmost importance to his administration considering that the Sector is a highly specialized field of operation. The Governor also informed them that the committee constituted by the state government is taking head count of the deceased and their families and appealed for their cooperation while pledging his continued support. Representatives of the Groups acknowledged the State Government's support to the mining sector and its exemplary leadership role in handling the unfortunate incident involving artisanal miners in the State.
