The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) for academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering January to August 2026. Education Minister, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the payment fulfils part of the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement and reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of academic staff and strengthening Nigeria’s education sector. The allowance is designed to support lecturers with essential tools and materials for teaching, research and other academic activities. Payment to non-academic staff is also being processed and is expected to be made available in the coming weeks. Beyond staff welfare, the administration says it is investing in tertiary infrastructure, basic education and postgraduate education, with the broader objective of providing Nigerian students with quality education comparable to global standards.
