FG BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF NEW NATIONAL GRID CONTROL CENTRE The Federal Government has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, in Osogbo, Osun State. The new centre will replace a 64-year-old facility so as to effectively manage the national grid. A statement by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe says the new centre will give NISO real-time visibility of the national grid and the capacity to respond promptly to system events, describing it as a concrete expression of the President’s determination to fix underlying weaknesses in electricity supply. Upon completion the centre will deploy integrated SCADA, large-format displays and analytics to assist operators detect developing faults, plan preventive maintenance and optimise existing generation and transmission capacity. It also notes that it will improve response to system disturbances, support renewable energy integration, strengthen Nigeria’s coordination within the West African Power Pool and enhance physical and cyber security.
